AUTOMATED LARGE VOLUME PYROLYSIS FOR GC-MS AND GC-MS/MS

Large-volume pyrolysis oven, large sample crucibles and automated handling with PAL RSI / PAL RTC - for reproducible pyrolysis, collection and subsequent GC-MS detection.

 

Concept:

The new Chromtech pyrolysis oven extends the automated pyrolysis workflow for handling large sample amounts. This enables the use of large sample crucibles in Microplastics analysis.

Pyrolysis products are transferred via a heated transfer line into the PDMS sorbent material in the OPTIC liner and subsequently thermally desorbed, chromatographically separated and detected in GC-MS systems.

Workflow - fully automated workflow: From sample crucible to GC-MS/MS detection:

1. Crucible retrieval: Take crucible with sample out of special PAL3 stack with custom gripping tool.

2. Oven loading: Open the lid and place the crucible on the quartz platform.

3. Pyrolysis: Close the oven door, lock pneumatically and start pyrolysis controlled by PAL3.

4. Sorbent collection: Collect pyrolysates on PDMS sorbent via heated transfer line.

5. Liner transfer: Transport the OPTIC liner with PAL RTC into the OPTIC injector.

6. GC-MS analysis: Thermal desorption, GC separation and MSD / Triple quadrupole detection.
